Let the number of votes polled for candidate A and B be x and y respectively.

A.T.Q,

x + y = 30000
x - y = 400
------------------------
2x = 30400
------------------------

x = 30400/2 = 15,200

x - y = 400

15200 - y = 400

-y = -14800

y = 14800

Therefore,

Candidate A got 15200 votes while B got 14800 votes.
