In an election between two candidates, one
candidate secured 47% of votes polled and
lost the election by 12,366 votes. Find the total
votes polled and the votes secured by the
winning candidate.

By the data given,one candidate got 47% and the other got (100-47) 53% votes.

So,the candidate lost by 6% votes.

Let total votes be X.

Then ,6 % of X=12366

X=12366×100/6 =206100

So, winning candidate got 53 % of 206100 votes =53×206100/100=109233
