In an election the winner got 70% of the votes and won by 1600 votes. If no votes were declared invalid ,find the number of votes polled in the election

This isn’t really a voting question, it’s a maths question.

If we assume that everyone voted for one of the two candidates and no one wrote one in, then the total number of votes is 4000.

To get to this you must find the difference between the two candidates share of the vote as a percentage.

100–70 = 30

70 - 30 = 40

Now we must work out how many votes one percent is. We do this by dividing the total number of votes in the margin of difference by the percentage of votes in the margin of difference.

1600 / 40 = 40

Now we multiply this number by one hundred to get the total number of votes.

40 * 100 = 4000

There you have it, Four thousand votes in total.
