let 100 % of votes be ' x '

winning candidate got 40 % of the total votes

40% of total votes = 32,0000

40 % = 32,0000

100 % = x

by cross multiplication , we get

x × 40 = 32,0000 × 100

x = 3,20,0000 / 4 = 80 ,0000

x = 80, 0000 ( total votes )

his opponent got 24 % of the total votes

= 80,0000 × 24 / 100 = 8,000 × 24
=19,2000

person who did not vote

= 80, 0000 - 32,0000 - 19, 2000

=80,0000 - 51, 2000 = 28, 8000

therefore , total votes = 80,0000

candidates who did not vote=28, 8000
