Given,

Winning candidate got = 726249 votes

Nearest rival got = 526351 votes

Third candidate got = 45460 votes

Invalid votes = 2285

To find,

Total number of votes that was polled.

Solution,

First of all, we have to calculate the total vote which are unitedly obtained by the winning candidate, nearest rival and the third candidate.

Total votes = 726249+526351+45460 = 1298060

Invalid votes will be also added in this list

Actual total votes = 1298060 + 2285 = 1300345

Hence, the total number of vote is 1300345

Given : In election the winning candidate got 726249 votes

His nearest rival got 526351 votes and third candidate got 45460 votes 2285 votes were declared invalid

To Find :  the total number of votes polled in the constituency

Solution:

Assuming only 3 candidates .

Winning Candidate got Votes  =  7,26,249

Nearest Rival  Got Votes    =         5,26,351

Third Candidate got votes     =         45,460

Votes  Declared invalid           =           2,285

Total Votes = Votes of all 3 candidates + invalid votes

= Votes of 1st  candidate  + Votes of 2nd candidate + Votes of 3rd candidate  + invalid votes

= 726249 + 526351  + 45460  + 2285

= 13,00,345

7,26,249

   5,26,351

      45,460

         2,285

____________

13,00,345

total number of votes polled in the constituency = 13,00,345
