Total number of vote were x one got 62 % of x since only two candidate were there. so other got 38 % of x

 \color{darkcyan}\[ \begin{array}{c} \tt 62 x-30 x=144 \\ \\ \tt 24 x=144 \\ \\ \tt x=6 \\ \\ \tt 100 x=600 \end{array} \]

Hence total no of voles is 600.
