Answer :

The total number of votes were 8254

Step by step explanation :

Given :

  • There were two parties / candidates in an election
  • The winner polled 63% votes and won by 5200 votes

To find :

  • Total number of votes polled

Solution :

Let us assume the total number of votes polled as x

According to the question we have ,

  • 63% of x = 5200

  • \sf\dfrac{63}{100}\:\times\:x\:=\:5200

  • x = \sf\dfrac{100}{63}\:\times\:5200

  • x = \sf\dfrac{520000}{63}

  • x = 8253.96

As the number of people can't be in decimals we can take the total number of votes polled as 8254 approximately .
