in an electric circuit the direction of electric current is taken positive but the direction of the flow of electrons is taken negative. Why?

As per general convention the flow of current is opposite to the flow of electron.
Regarding flow of positive ion, its solely a hypothetical concept because there is nothing as positive that flow, its just lack of electron.
So better to understand in the language if electron flow only.
