Answer:Long ago, when electrons weren't discovered, electric current was assumed to be the flow of positive charges (protons). This was known as the conventional direction of electric current that is from positive to negative. All the theories and researches were done on this basis.
After that, it was discovered that electric current was actually a flow of negative charges (electrons) from negative to positive. This was the actual direction of electric current.
