Explanation:
IN AN ENTIRE LIFETIME ,THE AVERAGE PERSON HAS WALKED EQUIVALENT OF FIVE TIMES AROUND THE WORLD
SOME FACTS ABOUT THIS :-)
RELATED TO PHYSICS
I’ve made quite a few assumptions here, but let us give it a go.
Firstly, what is an average person? Can we even try to compare someone from a village in Africa walking 20 miles a day to collect water, with a car-bound Westerner who is leading a sedentary lifestyle and perhaps walks less than a mile a day.
The circumference of the world is approx 24,000 miles (I know, first assumption, but let’s try to keep the maths simple).
So, five times round is 120,000 miles.
Average lifespan is, again rounding, 75 years. Take off a few inactive years at the start and end of life and say you have 60 years of walking in you. So, to walk five times round the world in a lifetime one needs to walk about 2,000 miles per year, or about 5.5 miles per day.
I am an active walker, and probably walk further than most people in Britain. I aim to walk 1,000 miles per year, or about 2.75 miles per day. So, even I am not meeting the average.
The person in Africa, on the other hand, is walking far more than the average, but probably only has a life expectancy of 50 years, and an active lifespan of 40 years. However, even in that time s/he could have walked nearly 300,000 miles.
I’d be happy to see other interpretations
