In an exam 3 marks are awarded for each correct answer, and one mark is deducted for each in correct answer. If Neha attempts 37 questions and scores 79 marks, find the number of correct answers?

so total questions attempted is:

x + y = 37 ---------(a)

Now, for every correct question 3 mark is awarded so total number she gets for correct questions is 3x,

Similarly for every wrong answer it will be 1y(y)

Now, total marks obtained will be:

3x - y = 79-----------(b)

On solving both equations simultaneously,

you will get

x = 29, y= 8 ie. correct questions= 29
