If there are 100 candidates, then

candidates failed in english =30

candidates failed in Maths = 35

candidates failed in both = 27

candidates failed in atleast one subject = 30+35-27 = 38

candidates passed in both subjects = 62

If 62 candidates passed in both subjects, then total candidates = 100

If 248 candidates passed in both subjects, then total candidates = 100*248/62=400

hope it helps you mate

Failures in English =>100-70=30

Failures in maths =>100-65=35

Failures in both subjects =>27

Failures in one or both subjects = 100-38=62%

let the total students be x,

(x X 62)100=248

=>x=(248X100)/62=400
