Answer:

passing marks is= 28% + 80marks

passing marks is= 38% -20marks

so ..

28%+ 80=38% -20

80+20 = 38%-28%

100=10%

then 100%=1000marks

so passing marks will be

28% of 1000+80 marks

=280+80

=360

... if I'm good marks as brilliant ☺️

Passing marks were 360.

Step-by-step explanation:

Let the total marks be 'x'.

in an exam a student got 28% of total marks and failed as he got 80 marks less than the total required

It means to get the passing marks, his expression would be

\dfrac{28}{100}\times x+80\\\\=0.28x+80

. Another student passed by scoring 38% of the total marks, when he had scored 20 marks more than the required total.

To get passing marks, his expression would be

\dfrac{38}{100}x-20\\\\0.38x-20

So, both are passing marks now,

Therefore,

0.28x+80=0.38-20\\\\80+20=0.38x-0.28x\\\\100=0.1x\\\\x=\dfrac{100}{0.1}=1000

Passing marks would be

0.28\times 1000+80\\\\=280+80\\\\=360

Hence, Passing marks were 360.
