In an exam, one mark is awarded for every correct answer and 1/4 deducted for every wrong answer. A
student answered 120 questions and got 90 marks. Find the number of questions answered correctly​

marks for x correct answer = 1×x = x

marks for y wrong answers = -1/4 × y = -y/4

we know the marks he got = 90

x - y/4 = 90. .......- eq 1

and number of answer = 120

x+y = 120. ..... eq 2

subtract equation 1 from equation 2

we get y + y/4 = 30

therfore y = 24

now, x + y = 120

put value of y = 24

x = 120-24 = 96

therfore total correct answers are 96
