In an examination 2500 students appeared out of which 1100 were girls. 50% of the boys and 40%
of the girls passed the examination. What percentage of the candidates failed in the examination?

Answer:

total number of student = 2500

number of girls student appeared in the exam = 1100

therefore number of boys students appeared in the exam = 2500-1100 = 1400 ( boys students)

according to question,

number of girls student passed in the exam = 40 %of 1100 = 440 students

therefore number of girls student fail in the exam = 1100-440 = 660 .

number of boys student pass in the exam = 50%of 1400= 700

hence number of boys students failed in the exam = 1400-700 =700 students

now count the total number of failed students = no of boys failed + no of girls failed = 660+700 = 1360 student .

therefore number a failed student in percentage = 1360/2500 ×100 = 54.4%.
