The number of students appeared in the examination the subjects is 400

Solution:

Given that,

30% of the students failed in maths

40% failed in science

25% failed in both the subjects

Then,

Total failed = 30 + 40 - 25 = 45 %

Then,

Passed = 100 % - 45 % = 55 %

Given,

220 passed in both the subjects

Let "x" be the number of students appeared in the examination the subjects

Thus,

55 % = 220

100 % = x

Then,

55 \times x = 220 \times 100 \\\\x = 400

Thus number of students appeared in the examination the subjects is 400
