Question :

In an examination 35%of candidate failed in maths and 25% in English if 10% failed in both mathematics and English then how much percent passed in both ?

To Find :

  • The percentage passed in Mathematics and English

Solution :

Given that

Let us assume that total candidates are 100 %

✏ 35 % of the total candidates failed in Maths

✏ 25 % of the total failed in English

✏ 10 % students failed in both subjects

Hence,

  • Students failed in maths = 35 % - 10 % = 25 %

  • Students failed in English = 25 % - 10 % = 15 %

  • Students failed in both Maths and English = 10 %

So subtracting these from total we get

Percentage of students who passed in both subjects :

✏ Total students - (Students failed in Maths + English + Both subjects)

Putting their values we get

✏ 100 % - (25 % + 15 % + 10 %)

✏ 100 % - 50 %

✏ 50 %

  • Hence, 50 % of the total candidates passed in book subjects
