SOLUTION

Let the set of percent of candidates who failed in English be A & in science be B.

Therefore,

n(A)= 56

n(B)= 48

& n(A intersection B) = 18

Percentage of who failed at least in one of then= n(AUB)

=)n(A) +n(B)-n(A intersection B)

=) 56+48 -18 = 86%

therefore,

86% of the students failed in either English or Science or both.

so, (100-86)%

=) 14% passed in both. [answer]

OPTION (A)✓

Hope it helps
