In an examination 60% of the candidates passed in Mathematics, 70% in Statistics and 10% failed in both

the subjects. If 300 candidates passed in both the subjects, the total number of candidates who appeared

for the exam is ___________.

No of candidates failed in Maths = ( 100 - 60=40%)

No of candidates failed in Stats = (100- 70= 30%)

No of candidates failed in both = 10%

No of candidates failed in any subject would be

= 40 + 30 - 10 = 60 %

So candidates passed in both = (100 - 60 = 40%]

so 40% of candidates = 300 ( given )

Total students = 300 * 100 / 40 = 750

Total candidates appeared for exam = 750
