Total candidates. =x
The percentage of failed candidates=100-86%=14%
But given no of failed candidates= 70
So 14%of x= 70
x=70x100/14=500

Check
No of passed candidates = 86% of 500
=86x500/100=430
Total candidates =430+70=500
