Let the candidate be x.

So,

91% of the candidate passed and 18 failed.

Passed and failed students is equal to the all students.

A.T.Q:-

91% of the whole candidates + 18 students = whole students

91% of x +18= x

91*x/100 + 18 = x

91x/100 + 18 = x

91x+1800÷100 = x

91x+1800 = 100x

1800 = 100x -91x

1800 = 9x

1800/9 = x

200 = x

So the candidates appeared in the examination is 200

Hope it will useful..
