so 575 students appeared in exams

Let the No. of participants = X

No. of passes Participants = X × 92/100

No. of participants failed = 46

total participants = 92X/100 + 46

X = 92X /100 + 46

X = (92X + 4600)/100

100X = 92 X + 4600
8X = 4600
X = 575

Hence Total participants were = 460
