Answer:

Given :-

In an examination hall 96% of candidates passed and 50 failed.

To Find :-

How many candidates appeared for the exam.

Solution :-

Let, the number of candidates prepared for the exam be x

Number of candidates failed = 50

And, the percentage of candidates passed = 96%

Then, number of candidates failed = 100% - 96% = 4%

According to the question,

⇒ 4/100 × x = 50

⇒ x = 50 × 100/4

⇒ x = 5000/4

➠ x = 1250

∴ The number of candidates prepared for the exam is 1250.

VERIFICATION :-

↦ 4/100 × x = 50

By putting x = 1250 we get,

↦ 4/100 × 1250 = 50

↦ 1250 = 50 × 100/4

↦ 1250 = 5000/4

↦ 1250 = 1250

➦ LHS = RHS
