Answer:

when something is full we say it is 100%.

96%people passed,then what percent of people failed?

so, 100%-96%=4%

therefore 4% people failed.

total strength=x.(assume)

4 percent of x is equal to 40.

(4/100)x= 40

(1/25)x= 40

x/25=40

x= 40×25

x= 1000.

therefore 1000 candidates appeared.

Answer:

1,000

Step-by-step explanation:

No. of Candidates who passed = x

No. of Candidates who failed = x

The percentage of Candidate who passed = 96%

The percentage of Candidate who failed = 4% (100-96)

=> Therefore 4% of total candidate is 40

=> Therefore 1% of total candidates is 40/4

=> 1% = 10

=> 100℅ = 100 × 10

Ans. = 1000
