Given:

In an examination A scored 130 marks which is 10 marks above 40% of the total marks while B scored 75% marks.

To find:

The marks secured by B

Solution:

Let's assume "x" represents the total marks

The marks scored by A = 130

According to the question, we get

Marks scored by A = 10 + 40% of total marks

130 = 10 + (\frac{40}{100}\times x )

130 -10  =  (\frac{40}{100}\times x )

120 =  \frac{40}{100}\times x

3 =  \frac{1}{100}\times x

\bold{x = 300} ← total marks

Now,

The percentage of marks scored by B = 75%

∴ The marks secured by B is,

= 75% of total marks

= 75% of x

= \frac{75}{100} \times 300

= 75 \times 3

= \bold{225}

Thus, the marks secured by B is → 225.
