He got 110 marks

If he had got 10 marks then he would have passed the exam

So minimum required marks =120

120=30%of maximum marks

120=30/100×M.M.

120×100/30=M.M.

M.M.=400

Given:

Minimum marks to qualify=30%

Marks scored by student=110

To find:

The maximum marks

Solution:

The maximum marks are 400.

We can find the marks by following the given steps-

We know that a student needs to score at least 30% marks to clear the exam.

Let the total maximum marks be M.

The student scored 110 marks.

Minimum marks required=30% of M

=30/100 of M

=30M/100=3M/10

Now, as per the given information, the student scored 10 less than the minimum marks.

So, minimum marks-10=marks scored by the student

3M/10-10=110

3M/10=110+10

3M/10=120

3M=120×10

3M=1200

M=1200/3

M=400

Therefore, the maximum marks are 400.
