so marks needed to get pass =200
40% of x = 200
x = 200 ×100 /40
x = 500
40% of x = 200
x = 200 ×100 /40
x = 500

Let the maximum marks be "x"
sine, the student failed by 25 marks even after getting 175 marks .
therefore,the passing marks are 175+25 which is also 40% of the total marks .
now,
40% of x=200
(40/100)*x=200
by solving we get
x=500
the maximum marks are 500.
