Let \: the \: total \: students \: appeared \: in \: exam \: be \: x \\ <br />Students \: who \: used \: unfair \: means \: = \frac{1}{3} \: of \: total \: students = \frac{1}{3} \times x = \frac{x}{3} \\ <br />Students \: who \: were \: caught \: red \: handed \: = 1/4 \: of \: Students \: who \: used \: unfair \: means \: = \frac{1}{4} \times \frac{x}{3} = \frac{x}{12} \\ <br />Students \: who \: were \: caught \: red \: handed \: = \: 5 \\ \frac{x}{12} = 5 \\ x = 5 \times 12 \\ x = 60<br />
