Heya!!

Here is your answer : -

Given,

Passing marks percentage of a exam is 40%

Sourya gets 175 marks and she falls short to pass the exam by 15 marks.

To find,

Total marks of the exam.

Main solution :

Let the total marks of the exam be x.

Passing marks = 40% of x = \frac{2x}{5} ©

Now, let's frame a equation for passing marks from the given data.

Sourya gets 175 marks and fails by 15 marks.

Therefore, passing marks = 175 + 15 = 190 marks ®

Equating © and ® , as they both are equal to passing marks,

=> \frac{2x}{5} = 190

=> Using transposition

=> 2x = 950

=> x = 475

=> Maximum marks = x = 475 marks

Hope it helps you .

Hey there!!

Lets take the maximum marks as x

He got 175 marks and fell short of 15 marks to pass

Pass marks = 175 + 15 = 190

40% ( x ) = 190

( 40 / 100 ) x = 190

2x / 5 = 190

2x = 190 * 5

x = ( 190 * 5 ) / 2

x = 95 * 5

x = 475

Total marks or the maximum number of marks are 475

Hope my answer helps!
