Total number of candidates   = 126

Step-by-step explanation:

In an examination, the success to failure ratio was 5: 2

Let say success  = 5A

Failure = 2A

Total = 5A + 2A = 7A

Failure been 14  more => 2A + 14

then   5A/(2A + 14)  = 9/5

=> 25A = 18A + 126

=> 7A = 126

=> A = 18

Total number of candidates = 7A  = 126
