Find the percentage of eligible applicants:

100 - 5 = 95%

Find the percentage of candidates for the general category:

Percentage of candidates = 85% x 95%

Percentage of candidates = 0.85 x 95%

Percentage of candidates = 80.75%

Find the percentage of candidates for the other category:

Percentage of candidates = 95 - 80.75

Percentage of candidates = 14.25%

Find the total number of applicants;

applicants belonging to other category = 14.25%

applicants belonging to other category = 4275

14.25% = 4275

1% = 4275 ÷ 14.25 = 300

100% = 300 x 100 = 30000

Answer; 30000 candidates applied
