In an experim ent to study refraction through a glass slab, it is observed that a ray of light undergoing refraction emerges parallel to the direction of incident ray. Why does it happen so?

The light ray enters the slab from air which is why it bends towards the normal. In the case of emergent ray, the same refracted ray exits the slab into air, hence moving away from the normal. If we produce the incident ray, we can find that it is parallel to the emergent ray.
