the solution of sodium sulphate and barium chloride reacts because one has a metal element and the other has a acidic elements .in this reaction ,barium being higher in the reactivity series than sodium ,it takes chloride ion to form barium sulphate  .during this reaction ,as the two solutions mix up in the test tube ,a white precipitate forms this is called barium sulphate

further experimentation shows that the solution formed do not dissolve even with addition hydrochloric acid .sodium combines with the chloride ions to form sodium chloride
