The base angles are equal therefore, first base angle = second base angle = x

The first base angle + second base angle + vertical angle = 180° ---- (Sum of all angles of a triangle)

x + x + 40 = 180

2x + 40 = 180

2x = 180 - 40

2x = 140

x = 140/2

x = 70

Therefore, base angles = x = 70°
