Answer:

Total employees = 1200

Ratio of urban to rural numbers = 8x : 7x

Number of urban members = [(8x) / (8x + 7x)] × 1200 = 640

Number of rural members 1200 – 640 = 560

Suppose x urban members joined, then

According to the question

(640 + x) / (560 + 20) = 5/4

(640 + x)/580 = 5/4

⇒ 640 + x = (5/4) × 580

⇒ 640 + x = 5 × 145 = 725

⇒ x = 725 – 640

⇒ x = 85

So, the number of new members is 85.
