The loop gain Ap should be greater than 1 to start the oscillations.

hope it helps

Question: In an oscillator, for sustained oscillations, the Barkhausen criterion is Aβ equal to (A = voltage gain without feedback, β = feedback factor)

Answer: 1

Explanation:

  • In an oscillator, Barkhausen criterion Aβ is equal to 1, because for this condition only the output voltage is sine wave under steady-state condition.
  • If Aβ is zero, then the product of Aβ and input voltage(v_{in}) will also be zero.
  • If Aβ  < 1,then the product, Aβv_{in} is less than v_{in}, and the output signal will die out.
  • If Aβ> 1, then the product, Aβv_{in} is greater than v_{in} , and the output signal will build up gradually (i.e. unsteady).
