In ancient times, the people did not have any role in choosing their ruler. But in present-day India, as it is a democracy, The citizens play a major role in electing their representative.

the difference is that in present time we live in democratic country where we are allowed to choose our own representatives and in earlier time as because it was monarcial and dectatorial....
