The trophic level of an organism is the number of steps it is from the start of the chain. A food chain starts at trophic level 1 with primary producers such as plants, can move to herbivores at level 2, predators at level 3 and typically finish with carnivores or apex predators at level 4 or 5.

In the food chain, trophic level – 1 always acts as a source of energy for other organisms and  it as each organism in the food chain partly uses the original "stored energy in order to survive".

Explanation:

  • In the process of food chain, green plants are the only living things that prepare their own food by themselves.
  • They are the only producers in the food chains.
  • They don’t consume any other living organism. They take energy from the outside source, and that can be used by other organisms.
  • It prevent energy from the sunlight through this process is called photosynthesis.
