In any isosceles triangle $ABC$ with $AB=AC$, the altitude $AD$ bisects the base $BC$ so that $BD=DC$.
Determine the area of $\triangle ABC$.

Answer:

In traingle ABD and triangle ACD

AB =AC ( isoceles property )

BD =CD ( AD bisects BC )

AD =AD ( common )

by SSS criteria traingle ABD = traingle ACD

then,

triangle ABD + traingle ACD = traingle ABC

traingle ABD + traingle ABD = trangle ABC

2(triangle ABD) = traingle ABC

or, traingle ABD = traingle ABC /2
