Areas with less than 500mm rainfall can be described as semi arid areas, this rainfall is not able to support most types of forests, the main type of forest that grows in this area is the scrub forests comprising of short, hardy and slow growing trees with adaptations such as being thorny and fleshy to fit their environment.

The areas which receive the rainfall of less than 500 mm are said to be semi desert or scrub areas.

Here the vegetation is not very green or in abundance.

You would see only spiky grasses, bushes, thorns around the place where the rainfall is not even 500 mm.

Such a vegetation could be normally seen in North Eastern Kenya, Northern Kenya, Meru Districts, Nyika Plateau etc
