HERE'S YOUR ANSWER
In a torch, the bulb is placed at the Focus of the concave reflector.
It is so because the rays originating from the focus, after getting reflected, becomes parallel to the Principle Axis of the reflector.
The parallel rays have a long range. That is why the Focus position is used.
