Because that is his original form as Sriman Narayana, he made his two hands disappear as it was requested by vasudev and devaki. After kamsa vadh Krishna was back to his four handed form because his parents had requested Krishna to behave as a normal kid.

Krishna ji before his father Vasudev and the mother Devaki appeared as Narayana, with the 4 hands. Lord Krishna was the 8th child of Vasudev and the mata Devaki. With the voice of Vasudev and Devaki came to grasp that the Lord Vishnu is near to born which means to the them as eighth child.
Only the three characters which are appear on stage and also the story of the maiin of unfolds through these three – Devaki, Krishna and Yashoda. After the main slaying Kamsa, Krishna frees Devaki, his birth mother which was , from Kamsa's prison. Even when she meets Krishna, she sees him not as her son but because the incarnation of Lord Vishnu.
