In some Mūlasarvāstivāda texts, an attendant of Ānanda is also mentioned who helps encourage Ānanda when heis banned from the First BuddhistCouncil. He is a "Vajjiputta" (Sanskrit: Vṛjjiputra), i.e. someone who originates from the Vajji confederacy.

The word sutra is a Sanskrit term that means “discourse” (in the Pali language: sutta). ... In Buddhism, sutras usually begin with the phrase “Thus I have heard” and they were composed to be memorized because it was not until the 1st century BCE that they started to be gradually written down.
