CAM Crassulacean acid metabolism –photosynthesis takes place in the mesophyll cells, but carbon fixation (and opening of stomata) takes place at night and the Calvin cyclehappens during the day. The equations are the same as for C4 plants. Substitute “night” formesophyll and “day” for bundle sheath

In the C4 pathway, initial carbon fixation takes place in mesophyll cellsand the Calvin cycle takes place inbundle-sheath cells. PEP carboxylase attaches an incoming carbon dioxide molecule to the three-carbon molecule PEP, producing oxaloacetate (a four-carbon molecule).
