Crassulacean acid metabolism, also known as CAM photosynthesis, is acarbon fixation pathway that evolved insome plants as an adaptation to arid conditions. In a plant using full CAM, the stomata in the leaves remain shutduring the day to reduce evapotranspiration, but open at nightto collect carbon dioxide (CO2).

Dear Student,
● Acid concentration increase during night in CAM plants because -
- In CAM plants, stomata are open during night for collection of CO2.
- This CO2 is fixed by carboxylase enzyme to malic acid.
- Hence, acid concentration increase during night in CAM plants.
◆ Extra information about CAM plants -
- CAM photosynthesis is a carbon fixation pathway that evolved in some plants as an adaptation to arid conditions.
- In these plants, stomata remain closed during day to reduce photo respiration.
- Stomata are open during night for collection of CO2.
- As succulents plants have low surface to volume ratio, they're oftenly associated with CAM pathway.
Hope this helped you. Thanks for asking..
