no all bond length is different in CO3 ion

● Carbonate ion all 3 C-O bonds have identical length -
- Carbonate ion has two C-O single bonds and 1 C=O double bond which suggests C=O bond is shorter than two C-O bonds.
- But experimentally, all 3 bonds have identical length. i.e.1.28 A°.
- This is because it can be represented by 3 Lewis structures.
- Whenever 2/more Lewis structures of a compound exist, true structure is represented by resonant hybrid of resonant structure.
- As all 3 resonant forms of carbonate ion is equally stable, bond-length must be equal.
