In Carnatic music Sthayi means the count of an octave. A sthayi is the range of seven notes starting from the lower frequency Sa, Ri, Ga, Ma, Pa, Dha, Ni and ending in the higher frequency of Sa. The higher frequency Sa of this octave then becomes the starting note or swara for the next octave and so on.
