For activating Ruler option, one has to click on View Tab. You'll find the Ruler checkbox under Show/Hide group. For activating the Ruler in the slide, you need to put a tick mark in front of the Ruler checkbox, and when there's no tick mark in the check box, then the Ruler will not appear in the slide.
