In cbse 10 science text they have said ca(oh2) is used for white washing. But the answer is cao in all the solution books.plzz explain.

shraddha33204: Whitewash is a type of paint made from slaked lime (calcium hydroxide, Ca(OH)2) and chalk calcium carbonate, (CaCO3),
shraddha33204: And i have not seen anywhere where it is return that cao and not caoh2
alexfranko: who are you
shraddha33204: whoever i am what is ur problem
shreyanalawade603: white wash turns in caco3 when caoh reacts with co2. (don't mind the formulae) so basically caoh is formed by adding water to cao... hence the answer is cao...and its obvious that it's cao which reacts with water and not caoh:)
