The utility of various types of microorganisms such as A. ferrooxidans, A. thiooxidans, Paenibacillus polymyxa, Bacillus subtilis, sulfate-reducing bacteria, as well as yeasts in mineral beneficiation is illustrated with examples. Mechanisms in biobeneficiation are illustrated in terms of surface chemical and chemical forces. Microbially influenced flotation and flocculation processes are detailed with respect to sulfide ores, iron ore, bauxite, clays, and other industrial minerals.
